Are you looking for a position where you can support in a research project and are you interested in studying the relationship of online platform working conditions to worker well-being in the European Union. Then we are looking for you to join our GHOSTWORK ERC project.

Job description

As an assistant, you will primarily support the data analysis process. Alongside the PhD students, you will examine what working conditions workers experience in performing the form of online crowdwork known as ‘microworking’, how they experience those conditions and the extent to which conditions relate to worker wellbeing. While there may be opportunities to assist with other project elements, they will be considered on a non-interference basis.

Concerning your research support tasks, your job will look like this:

  • You will be trained on the existing codebook, research design and approach, and then given a percentage of interviews to code first to establish intercoder reliability.
  • You will be responsible for reviewing and editing interview transcriptions for accuracy.
  • You will conduct qualitative coding and analysis of crowdworker interviews (approx. 160), guided by a Straussian grounded theory approach and using CAQDAS (Atlas.ti).
  • You will participate and contribute to biweekly discussions on coding progress; the necessity for these discussions will be re-assessed as needed, and these sessions can be conducted remotely.
  • On a non-interference basis with the coding process, you may have opportunities to contribute to the project webpage, newsletter, and other project elements.

Regarding the general research support, you will work with professors and collaborators within the Department of Organizational Dynamics in the Digital Society. Specifically, you will work as a part of the research team of the ERC Consolidator Grant project, "The ghostworker's wellbeing: an integrative framework". We are an international research team of four, two professors and two PhD students, from diverse backgrounds in communications, labour studies and sociology. See https://www.ghostwork.org for more information and relevant publications.
