Job description

At RSM we have our own learning innovation team to facilitate the design and implementation of innovations in our education. Our goal? Support our faculty in delivering excellent, future-proof education. Are you our new, experienced consultant to complement the team?

A day in the life of a learning innovation consultant

08:30 Start work. Coffee! Read emails

09:00 Research the latest insights on learner responsibility and autonomy

10:00 Team meeting to discuss the progress of the programmatic assessment implementation

11:00 Facilitate a learning design session for a bachelor course

13:00 Lunch

13:30 Meeting with the directors of the international MBA programme about adding experiential learning activities

14:30 Give teachers a demonstration of a tool they can use for peer feedback

14:45 Write a project plan for a master programme that is eager to switch its curriculum to a more competency-based approach

17:00 Advise a teacher on how to increase interactivity during lectures

17:30 Have a drink with the team (not every day, of course)

Requirements

You:
  • have a master degree in educational science or a related area
  • have extensive work experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, at a university or HBO/ MBO educational organisation
  • have knowledge of assessment methodologies, practices and principles
  • are fluent in Dutch and English (CEFR level C1)
  • have excellent communication and people skills
  • are a team player
  • are independent, proactive and eager to learn
  • want to take education forward to meet current and future challenges
  • are eager to stimulate teachers to further improve education
  • can help to maintain our progress to enhance quality and continued innovation in education

Your required competencies
The pandemic has had an immense impact on education at RSM. Our large (international) student population made it imperative that we deliver engaging and interactive online education of high quality.

We want to build on these experiences and make the student journey more personalised, flexible and engaging for our students. The goal is to offer competency based educational programmes that challenge students to take control of the development of their competencies. As our new team member, you bring this expertise.

Ideally, you:
  • have worked in educational innovation before, gained experience and know what does and doesn't work. This enables you to effectively translate innovation to RSM's education
  • have experience with the implementation of competency-based education and what that entails in the design, delivery and organisation of education
  • have excellent consultancy skills that enable you to identify needs, build trust, propose solutions in an inspiring way, create commitment and deal effectively with resistance
  • are aware of the latest developments in the field of educational science
  • are experienced in designing and facilitating effective and well-prepared workshops that will engage an astute and observant group of academics

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Initially for 1 year, possibility for permanent contract after that.

Your new colleagues

RSM's learning innovation team is dynamic and professional. We are all about improving, growing and increasing student performance. You will work closely with six team colleagues. Among them, a PhD in educational psychology, lifelong learning specialists, change management experts, and eager-to-learn student assistants.

RSM offers possibilities to combine working from home with working on campus. You are expected to work on campus in Rotterdam for at least 2 days a week.

Our mission is to proactively innovate all education within the business school to improve its quality and value proposition.

The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO VSNU). Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 2,960 (scale 10 CAO NU) gross per month and up to a maximum of € 5,439 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Erasmus University Rotterdam has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a generous number of vacation days.

The Learning Innovation Team supports RSM in improving and innovating their courses and programmes. This is done by developing blended and online learning, overcoming educational challenges, (re)designing courses or programmes, and by faculty development activities.
