Do you want to have an impact on issues in the outside world by combining insights from different disciplines? Do you want to be a part of a leading European school and build your own team as (associate-) professor in Planetary Health? Then we might have an opportunity for you.
Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), part of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), is a leading European school in health policy and management, with strong presence in health economics, health services and health systems research, socio-medical sciences, healthcare governance, and health insurance.
To deliver on important societal challenges, ESHPM has defined a strategic agenda that envisions significant investments in three new themes (Global Health, Sustainable Healthcare & Workforce and Planetary Health) as well as an enabling data infrastructure. Each theme is to be led jointly by a newly appointed Theme Chair and the current ESHPM department heads.
To strengthen the
Planetary Health theme, ESHPM is now recruiting for a new:
Theme Chair Planetary Health - (Associate-) ProfessorPlanetary HealthIn the context of climate change, healthcare systems around the world are looking for adequate responses, both in relation to reducing the ecological burden of healthcare and by improving the resilience of communities and the healthcare system. Further research in these areas is urgently needed. We have developed a program on the basis of two lines of research.
When it concerns mitigation of the causes of climate change, the primary focus is on a more environmentally sustainable healthcare system. What can be improved in the organization and delivery of healthcare and the behavior of citizens and patients to reduce the impact of the healthcare sector on climate change? What organizational and financial models could be used to optimize the use of resources and change behaviour of actors in the healthcare system towards responsible practices?
When it concerns coping with the impact of climate change, the primary focus is on understanding the relationship between climate change, the health and well-being of citizens and responses from the (public) health system. Which policies can help reduce the impact of climate change on health, with a focus on vulnerable groups in the population, and contribute to building more climate resilient communities and healthcare systems? Given the complexity of these challenges, they need to be tackled at several policy levels, both (inter)nationally and locally. When doing so, multiple drivers and effects of environmental impact need to be taken into account.
