In realising the university’s motivation to contribute to a sustainable society, asset management and maintenance engineering plays important roles as they link engineering research and education to the areas of life cycle management of products and capital assets. The assistant professor position will strengthen the chair’s research profile by focussing on new relevant theories, methodologies and tools. The tasks involve working on the intersection of asset management and maintenance engineering.

Job Description
The department is looking for a promising and passionate assistant professor who will be working on research and education related to technology, design, production and life cycle management of capital assets.

As an assistant professor, you seek to support our research programme which bridges several parts of the Department of Design, Production & Management: covering the whole product life cycle from Ideation & Concept Development to Design & Engineering, Manufacturing, Implementation, Operations and Maintenance to end-of-life. Furthermore, you will contribute significantly to knowledge transfer in the broad field of maintenance engineering and life cycle management.

You are playing a key role in strengthening collaboration between the chair and other research units at the university as well as with established industries. This role involves sharing knowledge at the intersection of industry and science, including lifelong learning masterclasses.

The assistant professor will be involved in existing undergraduate and graduate courses as well as the development of new courses, and will aid in the supervision of doctoral, master, and bachelor students. These activities will mostly take place at the University of Twente, but on occasion also at other knowledge institutions. Educational contributions are expected in the field of design methodologies and introduction strategies of capital assets, risk analysis, usability, monitoring, and advanced technologies in maintenance execution.

Requirements

  • You have a doctoral degree and expertise in a relevant field;
  • You have a passion for teaching and for developing inspiring and engaging education (you hold a University Teaching Qualification for Dutch Universities, a similar qualification, or are willing to obtain this within the first two years of employment);
  • Be an inspiring mentor and coach to junior researchers;
  • Demonstrate the ability to pursue and aid in the development of the existing research line of the chair;
  • Be able to interconnect science and industry;
  • Organisational and interpersonal skills, focused on inspiring co-workers to achieve excellence;
  • Excellent communication skills and command of English.
  • You have a broad interest in the research fields of Asset Management and Maintenance Engineering.
  • Desired knowledge for this position includes: Asset Management and maintenance concepts, methods and techniques such as RCM, FMEA, CBM, safety, and application of advanced maintenance strategies in industrial environments.
