The interdisciplinary project for which we are recruiting, a collaboration between the ESL in Rotterdam and the ISS in The Hague, is called: Integrating Normative and Functional Approaches to the Rule of Law and Human Rights (INFAR). This five-year project (2015-2020) joins together researchers working in international law, legal theory, socio-legal studies and law and development to research problems of the rule of law and human rights in transnational contexts.

For this second phase of the project the Department Sociology, Theory and Methodology of Erasmus School of Law and the Institute for Social Studies have a vacancy for a Post-doc researcher. For additional information about the project please see the attachment.

Tasks
The post-doctoral position is designed for a scholar who has recently received his or her PhD or has set an approved date to defend their doctorate in order to:

• execute his/her research proposal within the framework of the overall research project as described above;
• contribute to the joint publications of the research program;
• organize and attend meetings, workshops and conferences;
• coordinate the development of research grants.

We are looking for a post-doctoral candidate who has:

• a Ph.D. in law, preferably in socio-legal studies or international law, and expertise in the area of the project;
• the skills to research the rule of law and/or human rights in context, especially in the areas of international and transnational law;
• fluency in both spoken and written English;
• a proven research record, ideally including publications in international journals;
• ambition, energy, and flexibility;
• ability to produce work of excellent quality;
• a keen interest – and ideally experience – in multidisciplinary social science research on rule of law or human rights, regulation and governance;
• strong methodological skills;
• proven management/organizational skills.

The initial contract will be for one year (1.0 fte), with a proposed starting date of 1 March 2018. If you have given sufficient proof of your abilities, the temporary contract will be renewed for one additional year. The work conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The salary is dependent on prior training and experience and corresponds to Scale 11 CAO NU, with a minimum of € 3,475.- gross per month on a 38 hour per week contract.

The EUR has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8.0%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 41 annual vacation days in case of a full workweek.
