Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has three openings available for faculty appointments at the junior or mid-career levels. In exceptional cases, a senior faculty appointment will also be considered. The positions are expected to be filled by the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year.

We welcome applicants with research interests across a broad range of computer science disciplines. Our department currently has strong profiles in computer systems, security, information management and software engineering, bio-informatics and artificial intelligence. We welcome applications that strengthen existing areas or help us to expand in new lines of teaching and research.

In addition to individual research topics, we also encourage interdisciplinary research in topics related to university-wide initiatives for Science for Sustainability and the Networked World, as well as departmental initiatives in computer systems and security, knowledge-driven data science and software science. Areas of interest include autonomous intelligence, health and systems reliability and trust. Where needed, initial funding is available for laboratory facilities in our new departmental offices, set to open in early 2019.

We are looking for candidates with a strong international research profile, as shown by publications in top conferences in their areas of research, and a strong track record in teaching computer science courses at university level.

All appointments will be for tenure track positions, with an initial contract period of 5 years. Starting dates are negotiable, but should be close to September, 2018. You may find information about our excellent fringe benefits at www.workingatvu.nl. 

• Remuneration of 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance.
• Participation in a solid pension scheme (ABP).
• A minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment. 

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and range from a minimum of € 3475,00 gross per month in the first year up to a maximum of € 6438,00 gross per month (salary scale 11 to 14) based on a full-time employment.

The VU Department of Computer Science has approximately 170 members, including 35 tenured staff members and 40-50 PhD students. The tenured staff members form the essential basis for the functioning of the department. A tenured staff member is required to make significant contributions to the research and education programmes, and to spend effort on specific tasks at the department level.
