The postdoctoral researcher will join Dr. Apostolis Zarras to work on the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project PREVISION, which aims to analyze, structure and inter-relate various data streams related to cybercrime. Maastricht University is one of 28 European partners in the interdisciplinary project, which includes 10 different law enforcement agencies. The successful candidate will work on the detection and characterization of advanced cyber-attacks. She/he will work with other researchers and industry partners across Europe to develop multivariate behavior analysis and anomaly detection techniques focused on data analysis related to cybercrime. The main activities focus on identifying data sources that allow the detection of specific patterns, including large-scale malware analysis and classification. Due to a focus on the automated detection of cybercriminal activity, the position lies at the intersection of Cybersecurity and Machine Learning.

We expect the postdoctoral researcher to contribute cutting-edge research in this area, and more specifically, to produce and present academic publications in top-tier conferences/journals, liaise with academic and industrial partners, and work with other researchers in the field.

In addition to working towards PREVISION’s goals, the postdoctoral researcher will be able to shape their own research in the area of Cybersecurity. Moreover, our rapidly growing department offers excellent growth prospects for talented researchers looking to pursue an academic career.

·         A PhD in Computer Science (or a closely related field);

·         Proficiency in Python and C/C++;

·         An outstanding research and publication record;

·         Fluent command of English, both oral and in writing.

Please note that candidates should be willing to work from Maastricht. Although not required, experience in the field of Machine Learning, Reverse Engineering and/or Network Security is considered a plus.

Candidates who meet the specified requirements are evaluated chiefly on the novelty and significance of their research to date.

We offer a two-year, 1.0 fte appointment as postdoctoral researcher starting 1st of December 2019. Extension is possible after a successful evaluation as our department offers excellent growth prospects for early-career researchers.

Remuneration will be according to Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities in scale 10 with a minimum of € 2.709 and a maximum of € 4.274 gross per month (depending on your experience) for a full-time position of 38 hours/week. On top of this, there is an annual holiday allowance (8% of annual income) and an annual end-of-year bonus (8.3% of annual income).

Applicants from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for the so-called 30% ruling, a tax cut for highly skilled migrants that applies for a maximum of five years. If you are moving to Maastricht from more than 40 kilometers away, you may qualify for a one-time reimbursement of your relocation costs.
