Job description

The new colleague will primarily contribute to engaging and informing staff and students. The first focus will be on ISS staff and students but we also aim to communicate more effectively with the staff and students of the wider Erasmus University Rotterdam. You will report to the Marketing & Communication Manager and will help to develop and deliver the internal ISS communication strategy through online, print and face-to-face channels. With colleagues in the Marketing & Communication Team you will develop and produce communication that supports effective engagement with relevant audiences, for both structurally ongoing and project-based activities.

Requirements

·         HBO or academic education preferably in the field of communication (or related thereto)

·         3+ years of work experience in the field of communication

·         Experience with multi-channel approaches, especially with digital communication

·         Good visualising skills including e.g. video, photo, infographics, PowerPoint

·         Able to work effectively in a multicultural environment

·         Good communication skills in English (C1 level)

·         Ability to work as a team member and having a hands-on mentality

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

The starting date for this position is as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be based at ISS in The Hague and will be offered a one year contract (0,6 – 0,8 FTE) with Erasmus University Rotterdam. The contract may be extended in case of a positive assessment. In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch universities, the salary is in the range of EUR 2.579 to EUR 3.895 in case of full-time employment. In addition, ISS pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3%.

The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is a leading academic centre for international development studies in The Hague that is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). It is a post-graduate institute of policy-oriented critical social science, founded in 1952. The Institute offers a PhD in Development Studies, a 15.5-month Masters (MA) in Development studies with five Majors, and a MA in Public Policy.

Marketing & Communication - ISS

The Marketing & Communication Team of the ISS works in close cooperation with staff, students and alumni to raise the Institute’s and the University's profile. The team seeks to engage a cross-section of audiences in the markets in which we operate, from prospective students to the global academic community, from alumni to funding agencies and policymakers. We are also passionate about managing the reputation of ISS by disseminating relevant news and engaging the media, policy groups, civil society organisations and the general public. We reach out to our stakeholders through a wide range of channels including the website, social media, events, webinars, newsletters, academic publications, policy briefs and magazines.

The team of four professionals has a vacancy for a new position of Communication Officer with an emphasis (but not exclusively) on internal communication.
