In September 2009, Maastricht University started a satellite campus in Venlo. Now, the campus has grown into a full-fletched academic environment offering several educational bachelor and masters programs and multidisciplinary research within the Brightlands campus Greenport Venlo. Both education and research are defined by a multidisciplinary approach to Business, Health & Nutrition, Psychology, Biology and Agriculture.

The Associate Dean in the context of the wider University

The academic Campus in Venlo is embedded in the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo but remains an integral part of Maastricht University. Whereas the campus has a small scientific core staff, it is drawing the majority of its teaching and research staff from the other faculties of the University. For organizational purposes, individual educational programs and research institutes are integral parts of those faculties. Although the new Associate Dean will be appointed in one of these faculties, it is important that the Associate Dean actively engages with all educational programs and research institutes on the Venlo University Campus. To this end, the Associate Dean will chair the Operational Platform Venlo, which is comprised of all relevant educational program directors and scientific research directors. Another central role of the Associate Dean is to anchor the cooperation within the Venlo institutes and between Campus Venlo and other (Maastricht) faculties. The Associate Dean makes sure that communication runs smoothly, and that faculties continue to supply the Campus Venlo with high quality teaching and research activities and staff. Hence, it is important that the new Associate Dean can establish a good working relationship with other institutes.

Interaction with regional stakeholders

Maastricht University operates as a satellite campus at 75 kilometers from Maastricht. The University Campus Venlo is part of a vibrant and fast-growing network of International and local SME’s, research institutes and the Brightlands campus Greenport Venlo. Together with regional partners, campus Venlo aims to make the next step in circular Business, Health & Nutrition, Psychology and Biology/Agriculture. The Associate Dean will strongly interact with the regional stakeholders, consisting of the business community and the local and regional government to position and grow the Maastricht University activities at this campus. In addition, the Associate Dean should actively contribute in acquiring research grants and set up external projects/funding. In this way, the Associate Dean is the linking pin between research, education and regional stakeholders. The expectation is that this position will be 0.4 to 0.5 fte management, with the remainder of the time focused on research and education.

·       An excellent track record which includes relevant management experience.

·       An excellent command of the English language and the ability to flourish well in an international setting and rapidly developing environment.

·       An appointment as a full professor 1,0 fte.

·       A temporary contract with agreed specific goals. Depending on your track record and/or meeting the goals set out in the work contract, you will get a permanent contract.

·       € 5.582 - € 9.812 euro gross p/m (salary scale full professor level 1 or 2 depending on experience)
