FASoS is seeking an Associate Professor with demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and management in the field of Gender and Diversity Studies.

You will contribute to the teaching and coordination of courses and supervision of internships, projects and theses in the BA and MA programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Research is carried out within the context of the Research Institute for Arts and Social Sciences (see: https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/fasos-research-institute) and, in particular, relating to the interdisciplinary research programme Arts, Media, and Culture (see: https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/fasos-research-institute/research-organisation/arts-media-and-culture).

In addition, you will become a member of the Center for Gender and Diversity (https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/centre-gender-and-diversity). This Center studies gender as a category of identity. Acknowledging that gender shapes social identities through its intersections with affiliated identity markers, it takes particular interest in the intersections between gender and age (ageing studies, childhood studies) and gender and religion (religion studies). The CGD analyses these intersections by focusing on the arts, broadly understood (literature, art, popular culture).

You will be expected to develop international research projects and to attract external funding that is related to the faculty’s core research themes and in dialogue with an interdisciplinary research approach.

The division of teaching and research duties follows the regular division used at the Faculty of 60% teaching and management and 40% research. The research time can be extended through external fundraising.

You display outstanding quality in teaching, research and styles of leadership. You are an already established and internationally renowned scholar in a relevant humanities/social science discipline (gender and diversity studies, queer studies, disability studies, ageing studies, childhood studies, religion studies, cultural history, cultural studies, etc.) with a focus on the arts in the broadest sense of the word in combination with an intersectional perspective that preferably connects gender and age or gender and religion.

You have a very good track-record in supervision of PhD students. You are an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and have demonstrated ability in thesis supervision, in teaching coordination roles and in course development. You are able to stimulate student learning and to maximize student participation in our system of small-scale problem based learning (PBL). Experience with teaching in international classrooms is preferable.

You display outstanding quality in research, have acquired external research funding from national, European or other research funding agencies and have experience with interdisciplinarity. You have a relevant international network. You are excited to work in an international project team to collaborate and attract research grants. An excellent record of international peer-reviewed academic publications is imperative. You have engaged with outreach activities that intervene in relevant public debates.

You have experience with significant management tasks that involve the leadership of a team. You are a team player, have an open, effective management style, and are ready to fulfil important administrative roles in the faculty such as programme director of a BA or MA program, research programme leader, head of department or director of a research center.

Fluency in English is a prerequisite (Cambridge English Proficiency, level C2, oral and written), while non-Dutch speaking applicants should be willing to learn Dutch (basic level).

We offer you a fulltime tenure track position as Associate Professor (level 2). Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels, depending on relevant work experience. This implies a minimum of € 5.190,-- and a maximum of € 6.317,-- gross per month for a full-time appointment of 38 hours per week (salary scale 13, Dutch Universities Conditions of Employment). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end- of-year bonus of 8.3%.

The university’s relocation policy stipulates that you need to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. If not already living in Maastricht (or its direct surroundings), you will be eligible for an allowance for moving costs or an allowance for alternative housing.
Other secondary conditions include e.g. a pension scheme and partially paid parental leave as well as a shared office space and a PC.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has about 250 staff members, and about 1,730 students. More than 77% of the students are non-Dutch (65 different nationalities).
