The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM) / Political Science Chair Group at the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University) is looking for a new Associate Professor of Conflict Studies to help further expand our research and education profile. You will contribute to the continuous high quality of education, notably in the Political Science Bachelor's degree track in Conflict Studies, the Human Geography and Political Science Master's degree tracks in Conflicts, Territories and Identities, and Conflict in Power and Politics, and Bachelor's degree electives. Together with colleagues, you will contribute to the further development of the CICAM-Political Science research agenda. You will be expected to participate in preparing applications for external research funding and develop your own research projects. 
Existing expertise within CICAM-Political Science includes conflict analysis, and research on state and non-state governance and external intervention in conflict-affected settings, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. Ideally, the research profile of the new Associate Professor will strengthen and complement our thematic and geographical expertise through a focus on, for instance, polarisation, radicalisation, social movements, or urban uprising/violence in Europe; European defence and security policies; new modalities and technologies of warfare; or climate change and conflict. Depending on the evaluation of your performance after two years, you may be offered a permanent position.

• A PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. political science, conflict studies, development studies, anthropology, human geography), demonstrated affinity with Political Science.
• High-quality research output, evidenced by a publication record in internationally recognized high-quality journals.
• The ambition and proven ability to attract research funding.
• Experience with the dissemination of research results through contacts with practitioners, policy makers and/or media is appreciated.
• Ample teaching experience, proven effective teaching skills and the capacity to develop and implement innovative teaching methods. Proven ability to supervise the development and implementation of academic study programmes. A Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO or UKO) or equivalent would be an advantage. Experience with teaching courses in Conflict and Peace Studies and/or qualitative and quantitative methods is desirable.
• Proven ability to inspire and supervise young scholars (MA students and PhD candidates).
• Proven ability to cooperate with and inspire teams of professionals.
• International experience and network.
• Academic leadership qualities in line with Radboud University’s leadership vision document on courage, connection and openness.
• Excellent English language skills and a willingness to learn Dutch (if applicable).
• The willingness to collaborate with members within the department and with chair groups in other disciplines at NSM.

Fixed-term contract: Two year contract, with possibility of extension into a permanent position.

• Employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
• A maximum gross monthly salary of € 6,317 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 13).
• The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
• In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• Duration of the contract: two years, with the possibility of permanency.
• The intended start date is 1 August 2021.

Nijmegen School of Management

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations. There are seven disciplines within NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. NSM employs 300 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics. Currently, NSM has approximately 5,000 students. The Centre for International Conflict Analysis & Management (CICAM) is embedded in the chair group of Peace and Conflict Studies at the Department of Political Science. The position of Associate Professor of Conflict Studies is associated with CICAM. CICAM is a multidisciplinary institute, conducting academic research and offering education in the field of conflict, peace and intervention in conflict-affected settings, aimed at students across Radboud University. CICAM actively engages in societal services regarding these themes (creating awareness, informing, advising).
