Job description

Are you an enthusiastic and experienced researcher with an academic attitude and broad interdisciplinary interest? Do you have a PhD in Spatial or Environmental Planning? And do you combine good communication skills with an affinity with rural and environmental challenges? Then we are looking for you!

The Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning Group (LSP) investigates how challenges brought about by global and environmental change can be addressed by means of spatial planning and design. These challenges include climate mitigation and adaptation, safeguarding biodiversity and keeping our countryside vital. Our specific competence is to analyse complex and dynamic systems at the landscape scale, and to propose inspiring and meaningful solutions. Accordingly, we educate and train a growing numbers of Bachelor, Master and PhD students to become knowledgeable, reflective, and creative landscape architects and planners. As assistant or associate professor Land Use Planning you will dedicate approximately 40% of your time to teaching and 60% to (commissioned) research and management tasks. You will be contributing to the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning programmes (BLP/MLP), by teaching courses (partly in Dutch) and by supervising BSc/MSc theses.

Requirements

  • hold a PhD in Spatial or Environmental Planning, Geography, or another related field;
  • have a demonstrated interest in rural and environmental topics;
  • have basic knowledge of the Dutch situation regarding spatial planning and (rural) policy;
  • have at least three publications in international, peer-reviewed ISI journals;
  • have experience in teaching, preferably also in course coordination;
  • have good communicative and writing skills;
  • be willing to contribute to general tasks and activities of the chair group;
  • have some command of Dutch, and an excellent command of English.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, we offer a tenure track position, for 38 hours per week (1 fte). Salary depends on knowledge and experience. Gross salary per month from € 3.807,- to € 5.211,- (assistant professor position) and from € 5.275,- to € 6.421,- (associate professor position) based on full time employment. Upon meeting the criteria of the Wageningen University Tenure Track, you will be tenured after four years.
