The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication is looking for 4 postdoctoral researchers. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will conduct research in the context of the Erasmus Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC) or History@Erasmus. In addition, you will be a member of one of the three departments of the School: History, Arts & Culture Studies, or Media & Communication.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will conduct research in the field of (i) human AI, including digital humanities, or (ii) cultural heritage and societal change, including historical studies (both are focal areas of the Dutch Sector Plan for the Humanities). Within these broader fields, you will develop and contribute to research focusing on the following themes or a combination thereof:
You will set up research collaborations on these topics with current staff and research groups within the School. You will publish about your research in highly qualified journals, conference proceedings, or edited volumes, preferably in the domains of media and communication, arts and culture studies, and/or historical studies. You will be expected to develop grant proposals and to contribute to the acquisition of external research funding (e.g. a Veni proposal or a Horizon Europe proposal). You will be expected to teach a limited number of courses in our Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree programs (approx. 20% of your appointment).
Employment is intended to start 1 November 2022 at the latest. The contract runs for a term of 2 years, after a probationary period. The contract concerns a temporary position. The conditions of employment correspond with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is subject to training and experience and corresponds to Scale 11 NU, with a minimum of € 3.974,- and a maximum of € 5.439,- gross per month on a 38 hour per week contract. The EUR has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8.0%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 41 annual vacation days in case of a full workweek.

The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments: History, Arts and Culture and Media & Communication. There are approximately 2500 students and over 220 employees.
