Job description

The Business Developer will be dedicated to business coming forth from the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences and in particular Amsterdam Movement Sciences (AMS), an innovative research institute. AMS is one of the research institutes of Amsterdam UMC and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and strives towards optimising physical performance in health and disease, and aims to utilize this expertise to improve human physical and mental wellbeing.

As a Business Developer you will support researchers in bringing their ideas to the market, by protecting and licensing IP, by supporting and initiating a start-up or by facilitating contract research with public or private partners. The Business Developer is a linking pin between the researchers and the various PPP (Public Private Partners) that are established, and guides the researchers through the initial phase of bringing a product or IP to the market. The Business Developer will be the first point of contact for academic researchers as they aim to bring their research product to market and a liaison officer for the faculty and the central organisation.

Your duties

  • Augmented reality to alleviate the freezing of gait in Parkinson research
  • Exoskeletons to restore and support the arm and leg function
  • Apps that are used to monitor the patient's health prior to, and after an operation
  • Apps that advice on exercises to improve or restore function
  • Wearables that register the wearer's data in real time
  • Thermometry; smart clothing that register body functions
  • Wearable technology to monitor various body functions

Requirements

You…
  • Have a Master/PhD preferably in Movement Sciences or Biomedical Engineering Sciences, and/or a MBA
  • Have an eye for promising research in the field of Movement Science/MedTech, among others, and the ambition to bring this research successfully to the market
  • Have proven experience with public-private partnerships, IP and licensing agreements
  • Are pro-active, entrepreneurial and you have a service mentality
  • Act as a natural connector between research and business
  • Get energy from facilitating and coaching start-ups
  • Have an excellent knowledge of Dutch and English in writing in speech and writing

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

IXA-GO offers you a challenging position within a professional and motivated team for an initial period of one year. An extension of your employment contract is possible subject to good performance.

On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11) and a maximum €6,181 (scale 12), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university ranking system (UFO) of Knowledge Valorisation Officer (2/3) and is open for at least 0,8 fte.

De dienst is verantwoordelijk voor de ontwikkeling van de VU strategie (Instellingsplan), onderzoeks- en valorisatiebeleid, wetenschappelijke integriteit, externe onderzoeksfinanciering, juridische advisering, documentmanagement en archivering, Public Affairs, bedrijfsvoering, levert procesmatige ondersteuning van beleid- en besluitvorming, en draagt inhoudelijk bij aan diverse strategische dossiers. BZ bevordert tevens de VU-brede governance, control en compliance en draagt zorg voor academische plechtigheden als promoties en oraties. Daarnaast zijn de Ombudsman personeel, de Studentenombudsman, de Internal Auditor en de Functionaris Gegevensbescherming bij BZ ondergebracht.
