The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam is pleased to announce a PhD position in international relations history that delves into the interplay between local/global dynamics and (post-)colonial histories. This project invites research on pressing global challenges that seeks to understand how they are linked to power relations and colonial structures of the past. Candidates interested in this PhD position are invited to select one or multiple historical case studies on a topic of interest and explore the interplay between the local and global (post)colonial dynamics shaping it.
The successful candidate will be based at the Department of History of the ESHCC and will carry out the following tasks:
Research (0.8 fte):
Teaching (0.2 fte)
Performing junior teaching tasks in the BA degree programmes in the field of History provided by ESHCC, primarily through tutorial group teaching.
Service
Contributing to small management tasks of the department.
To be eligible, a candidate must have:
An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
The start date of this position is 1 November 2023 and will run for a fixed term of 1.5 year initially, to be converted into a 4-year contract contingent upon a good performance.
The position is for 1.0 FTE. The salary ranges from a minimum of € 2.541 to a maximum of € 3.247 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with scale P of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision, and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal career budget, work-life balance coaches, discounted collective health insurance, and more. The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments: History, Arts and Culture and Media & Communication. There are approximately 2500 students and 220 employees.
