Job description

Geosciences play a vital role in addressing sophisticated environmental and societal challenges and are integral to transdisciplinary approaches for achieving sustainable living environments and enhancing the resilience of our society. We are committed to solving wicked global problems and addressing key sustainable development goals, in particular, Climate Action; Affordable and Clean Energy; Sustainable Cities and Communities by developing solutions for disaster resilience, sustainable mining, and energy transition. This has been translated in a series of recent initiatives, such as the Centre for Disaster Resilience (CDR) and the UT Climate Centre. In this framework, we are seeking a new member of the team to join us as Assistant Professor in Transdisciplinary Approaches in Geosciences for Sustainable Solutions.

You will develop innovative tools and approaches, and a transdisciplinary research direction within the ambitions of the Faculty, University of Twente, and the Netherlands sector of Earth and Environmental Sciences. You will also work on establishing and maintaining positive partnerships with partners in the geoscience field. This will involve working with policymakers, industry, academic institutions, NGOs, and other relevant organizations to promote sustainable practices in geosciences by using/applying citizen science, co-creation and co-production of knowledge methodologies with innovative and effective technologies (e.g. The DISC: Design and Interactive Space for Co-creating). You will build capacity in the geoscience community to promote sustainable practices and shape a generation of responsible and aware geoscientists. This may involve developing courses, training programs, workshops, and other educational initiatives in collaboration with our E-Learning Specialists and promoting the adoption of sustainable geoscience practices within the geoscience community, working with partners to develop and implement policies, guidelines, and standard processes. You will also supervise PhD candidates and MSc students including a PhD researcher directly linked to their position, and you will publish their results in scientific journals and open data platforms and cultivate a transdisciplinary approach with students in our educational programs.
