Job description

The Institute of Psychology at Leiden University comprises six units for teaching and research: Health, Medical and Neuropsychology, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Social and Organisational Psychology, and Methodology and Statistics. The Institute of Psychology offers a stimulating environment that promotes collaboration within and between units.

Tasks
Your research should be relevant to the domain of medical psychology, including interdisciplinary experimental and/or applied research in the area of psychological determinants and underlying mechanisms of somatic diseases and the development and evaluation of innovative diagnostics and treatments for persons with somatic diseases (e.g., diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatic disease). You may also contribute to the experimental and applied research of the Center for Interdisciplinary Placebo Studies Leiden (https://ipsplacebo.com), which studies the role of expectations and learning in health and disease (e.g., placebo and nocebo effects). Within the department, your work will primarily fall within the hub themes ‘Diagnostics and Interventions in Somatic Diseases’ and ‘The Role of Expectations and Learning in Health and Disease’. You will contribute to the health and medical psychology teaching program (at the Bachelor and Master level) offered by the unit, and will supervise students at different stages of their education. You will be expected to apply for research grants from Dutch and European funding agencies. In addition to contributing to ongoing teaching and research, you will play a role in the innovation of the curriculum offered by the department.

Requirements
You have an excellent research and teaching background, as well as a PhD on a topic relevant to medical psychology or a related field. You are able to supervise and conduct independent empirical (preferably experimental, clinical, or applied) research and to be successful in acquiring external grants. You have broad experience and affinity with teaching at the academic level. Both Dutch and English language proficiency (or the intention to reach it) is required. Clinical experience and/or registration as GZ-psychologist or comparable registrations are an advantage. The candidate will be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills certification trajectory (BKO or Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs).

Terms and conditions
A one year position for 0.8-1.0 fte, initially for a period of one year and with the expectation of being offered a permanent position after positive evaluation, at the Health, Medical and Neuropsychology unit at the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University. Salary range from €4,332.- to € 6,737.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 11 or 12 for assistant professor), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The position encompasses teaching at various levels and research.
