We are looking for a Quantum Engineer to join us in the Scappucci lab at QuTech. Our team is dynamic and inclusive; with each member bringing unique perspectives and expertise on innovative materials research in quantum technologies.
At the Scappucci Lab, our mission is to design, realize, and study epitaxially assembled group IV elements. Our goal is to tailor the structural and electronic properties of group IV heterostructures for applications in quantum technologies. Leveraging experimental techniques such as crystal growth, micro/nanofabrication, and cryogenic measurements, will push the boundaries of materials science to enable groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing.
For instance, the silicon-germanium quantum materials developed by the Scappucci Lab have enabled landmark experiments in the field of quantum information and are utilized by researchers worldwide for the advancement of quantum technologies. As we continue our journey to enhance qubit performance, we are expanding our epitaxial materials development efforts to pave the way for larger and more powerful quantum processors.
As a quantum engineer, you will play a key role in the fabrication of epitaxial heterostructures for quantum technologies using group IV semiconductors. We will offer you a unique opportunity where every day brings new challenges and where, as part of a team, you will be contributing to cutting-edge research in quantum computing and semiconductor technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Whether you just about to finish your PhD and have some experience with thin film growth techniques or you are an experienced Quantum Engineer, this role is tailored for you! We are not only considering experience and skills but also your passion for this topic and the right attitude. Whether you are junior or senior, we will adapt the role and give you the proper training or challenge, allow you to grow and thrive in this role. We are also committed to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and we do encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply.
The main qualifications we are looking for are:
Preferred Qualifications
Fixed-term contract: 1 year.
As a Quantum Engineer, you will receive a 1-year contract with the aims to offer you a permanent contract afterwards. Because we are reaching out to a large target audience, we will offer 2 different scales: Scale 10 (€3226 to €5090) for junior to mid-senior candidates and Scale 11 (€4332 to €5929) for senior candidates. This range reflects our commitment to supporting professionals at different stages of their career and offering a competitive compensation. On top of that we are also offering:
Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context.
At TU Delft we embrace diversity as one of our core values and we actively engaged to be a university where you feel at home and can flourish. We value different perspectives and qualities. We believe this makes our work more innovative, the TU Delft community more vibrant and the world more just. Together, we imagine, invent and create solutions using technology to have a positive impact on a global scale. That is why we invite you to apply. Your application will receive fair consideration.
Challenge. Change. Impact!
QuTech is a mission-driven research institute of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Together, we work on radically new technologies with world-changing potential. Our mission: to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and a quantum internet by integrating world-class research and groundbreaking innovation. Through excellence, relevance, and leadership, we cultivate a vibrant quantum technology ecosystem. We are jointly creating the quantum future, because we believe that quantum technologies can be a game changer in many societal and economic sectors, including health, agriculture and safety.
Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Qubit Research. The Quantum Engineer position is for the Computing division.
Quantum Computing division:
Realizing the promise of a quantum computer requires the development of different layers of hardware and software, together referred to as the quantum computing stack. This is what we do in the Quantum Computing Division. The basis of the stack, referred to as the ‘quantum chip’, contains the qubits. We are investigating different types of approaches for this part of the stack: electron spins in quantum dots and superconducting quantum circuits. Also, we’re developing the system architecture that connects and translates quantum algorithms to the low-level pulses that operate on the qubits of quantum processors.
