Job description

An Engineering Doctorate is an official-accredited degree as professional technological designer. During this in-depth program, you become a specialist while following a tailored post-master education programme. Further, you work with the external organization Allinq Group to develop a high-level and creative solution for the Universal Test Trench problem.

The sector (e.g., represented in COB) therefore advocates for increasing the amount of information shared about the underground between contractors and network owners. Various stakeholders in the sector support the idea that data from trial trenches and recently deployed utility lines should be shared. Existing (GNSS) and new (LiDAR/photogrammetry) technologies seem to have pushed this idea toward developing a centralized approach to sharing utility data. However, what data should be shared, how it needs to be modelled, stored, and visualized remains unclear.

This culminates in the following goal of this EngD, which is to:
Develop a unified approach to storing, exchanging, and visualizing (test) trench information between stakeholders in the utility construction sector.

We wonder: Can we develop a data model to capture the geometries and semantics of test trenches? Which registration technologies should this model be able to support? And how can data be visualized to support utility engineering activities?
