We're looking for an enthusiastic new colleague to chair our standardisation group within the Innovation Management team. Are you that person?

Job description

When you join the Innovation Management team as endowed professor standardisation management in the department of Technology and Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), you explore the connections between standardisation management and the cutting-edge world of innovation management. Your efforts help to enrich RSM’s research and education, and together we write the next chapter in the world of standardisation, innovation and transformation.

Job description
As endowed professor standardisation management, you create a fertile ground for investigating standardisation at various levels and from different perspectives. Your role resides within the Innovation Management group of RSM’s department of Technology and Operations Management.

In addition to your primary focus, the department's expertise in supply chain management and business information management presents an excellent opportunity for you to weave the threads of standardisation management into these relevant areas.

Your scientific insights are particularly invaluable when it comes to new technologies like AI, where there is a tremendous opportunity for innovation. Our joint vision is to establish a strong bond between our school and standardisation stakeholders. Within this vision, you create change, build consensus and drive innovation – all integral aspects of standardisation.

Standardisation requires a broad, managerial perspective. As endowed professor, you connect relevant stakeholders such as the Stichting Koninklijk Nederlands Normalisatie Instituut (NEN) with the Erasmus University (EUR). You do this by, for example, developing innovative methods and techniques or by validating the impact of standardisation within or across organisations. Whether small and medium-sized businesses or corporate businesses.

Established over three decades ago, the role of endowed professor standardisation management is truly one of a kind. It emphasises a managerial focus that sets RSM apart. We’re proud to be part of the SOONS network – a hub for education and research in standardisation within the Netherlands – and to foster collaboration with research groups at universities like Delft, Eindhoven and Tilburg.

Over the years, the endowed professor standardisation management has played a leading role in organisations such as the European Academy for Standardisation (EURAS), and we continue to be active participants in scientific and professional communities that are dedicated to advancing the field of standardisation, both nationally and internationally.

Requirements

We don’t expect you to have all the answers upon arrival; your journey at RSM involves continuous learning and knowledge development. Our team values your ambition to take our understanding of standardisation beyond its current state of expertise.

We are interested in you when you possess the following:
  • PhD in management and organisation or a closely related field
  • Strong commitment to high-quality, impactful research, demonstrated through publications in top management and business journals
  • Ability to engage in multi-disciplinary research to bridge the gaps between diverse fields
  • Exceptional teaching skills that ignite enthusiasm in the classroom
  • Experience and/or proven interest in standardisation
  • Passion for connecting standardisation to innovation to drive business improvements as well as to contribute to societal and economic impact
  • Full professional proficiency in English; proficiency in Dutch is a bonus, which bolsters the Netherlands' prominent role in standardisation

At RSM, we view diversity as an essential aspect of our identity, not just a factor that is ‘nice to have’. We embrace diversity in all its dimensions, and it is a key consideration in our hiring process.

EUR also offers you attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent and a generous number of vacation days.
