AI for Retail Lab (AIRlab), we are looking for postdoctoral researchers who are looking to further research around topics related to AI and/or data management in retail settings. This is an opportunity to be situated in leading information retrieval (
IRLab) and data management research groups (
INDELab).
What are you going to do? You will work on the forefront of AI and/or data management research inspired by retail settings.
Research topics of interest include but are not limited to recommender systems, information retrieval, forecasting, and data management for machine learning. As part of a vibrant AI ecosystem in Amsterdam, you will connect to the larger community interested in these topics and specifically to Ahold Delhaize to see how your research can help address their exciting and challenging real-world retail applications.
Tasks and responsibilities: - conducting independent research in AI, resulting in academic publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals;
- to become an active member of the research community and to collaborate with other researchers,
- supervising Bachelor and Master theses and tutoring students;
- coordinating and working with partners at Ahold-Delhaize.
What do you have to offer?Your experience and profile:
- PhD in artificial intelligence or computer science;
- committed researcher, demonstrated by publications in international refereed academic journals and conferences in particular in information retrieval, recommender systems, artificial intelligence or data management.
- experience in supporting tasks and the willingness to take the responsibility for administrative tasks,
- Professional command of English
Our offer We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week for a period of 12 months The preferred starting date is as soon as possible.
The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 3,345 to € 5,278 (scale 10). UvA additionally offers an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. The UFO profile Researcher 4 is applicable. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The
Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.

The position is part of the The AI for Retail (AIR) Lab Amsterdam which is a joint UvA-Ahold Delhaize industry lab and conducts research into socially responsible algorithms that can be used to make recommendations to consumers and into transparent AI technology for managing goods flows. At the IvI, you will be part of the
IRlab – the IvI’s world leading information retrieval group and/or the
INDElab – the IvI’s data management research group.
