We have an exciting vacancy with plenty of opportunities at WBVR in Lelystad, part of Wageningen University & Research.

We are seeking an enthusiastic analyst for the pre-analysis group DSU in the Diagnostics and Crisis Organization (DCO) department.

At DSU, you will receive all samples submitted for diagnostic research. As the national veterinary reference institute, we receive a wide range of samples for animal export, suspected notifiable diseases, animal disease monitoring, or scientific projects and research. You will register these samples in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and prepare them for transport to other laboratories within Wageningen Bioveterinary Research. This often involves pre-processing the samples. You will apply a comprehensive set of different preparation methods, such as processing organ material, swabs, and blood samples. Part of this pre-processing will take place within the High Containment Unit. A quality-oriented approach is very important in these tasks. You will be part of a close-knit team of approximately 6-8 people.

Initially, this is a temporary position for one year with the possibility of extension.
The Department The laboratories within the DCO department of WBVR are responsible for diagnostics related to monitoring and suspicions of notifiable viral and bacterial animal diseases, as well as performing export diagnostics. Quality is central in the execution of diagnostics and research. A large number of tests are accredited according to ISO17025. In addition to performing diagnostics, tests are developed, implemented, and validated. These activities are carried out by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of well-trained analysts.

For this position, it is important that you:
  • Are fluent in Dutch
  • Have a diploma a secondary vocational education or bachelor level
  • Are quality-oriented
  • Are proactive and flexible
  • Can function well in a team
  • Can handle stress during busy periods or animal disease outbreaks
  • Are willing to work outside office hours during outbreaks and suspicions of animal diseases
  • Are willing to be on call and work evening and weekend shifts if necessary
  • Are willing to be flexibly deployed for work in other laboratories
  • Are customer-friendly and customer-oriented

Please note: due to restrictions of immigration law, we cannot hire non-EU candidates.
The work will take place in buildings for which additional quarantine restrictions apply after leaving (based on EU regulations). This means that it is not allowed to keep cloven-hoofed animals. Additionally, for 72 hours after the work, it is not allowed to have contact with these animals or visit poultry production facilities.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €2,388,- and €3,245,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 6). You will initially receive a one-year contract, which will be extended to an open-ended contract upon in mutual enthusiasm.
