Do you have a passion for applying computational protein modeling in drug development? Are you interested in in silico research to better understand protein functioning? Do you enjoy working in an enthusiastic, multidisciplinary, and translational team? Do check this job add!

Job description

As a post-doctoral researcher, you will develop and apply computational models to unravel the molecular changes that define the functioning of blood coagulation proteins. A detailed understanding of these changes is essential for the identification of novel targets and/or protein variants in the development of therapeutics to prevent and treat major bleeding. Major bleedings occur in patients with a congenital bleeding disorder, such as hemophilia, or in patients that are prescribed commonly used anticoagulants for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis.

The research group of Mettine Bos, PhD, has a track-record in the translational development of novel protein therapeutics for major bleeding. In these studies, fundamental observations and insights are translated to innovative therapies, facilitated by state-of-the-art techniques, such as a computational pipeline supporting protein modeling incl. molecular dynamics simulations and preclinical in vitro validation models.

In addition, this project will provide room for developing your research ideas in the field of computational protein modeling. Improved in silico prediction of protein functions is essential for successful drug development.

Employer

LUMC

At the Leiden University Medical Center, we continuously work on improving patient care. We invest in groundbreaking, international research and work with the latest equipment. Together with our team of doctors, medical specialists, teachers, academic researchers and supporting staff, we aim for the best quality in health care, education and international research. And we need you to realize our goals!

Department

Thrombosis and Hemostasis

The research will be performed in the research group of Mettine Bos, PhD, in the division of Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the department of Internal Medicine. At the division of Thrombosis and Hemostasis various aspects of blood coagulation are investigated, ranging from in silico, in vitro, and in vivo studies of the biochemical and cellular effects of specific coagulation proteins, to the etiology, diagnostics, and treatment of venous thrombosis, and the development of novel treatment modalities for bleeding disorders. The preclinical research takes place at the Einthoven Laboratory for Vascular and Regenerative Medicine, where an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team of researchers, varying from professors to students and from research technicians to PhD trainees, specializing in coagulation, endocrinology, cardiology, clinical epidemiology, nephrology, and vascular surgery collaborate.
