The Faculty of Applied Sciences is looking for a new Data Steward to continue to support the growing needs related to research data, software management and Open Science.

Job description

TU Delft is a big advocate in open science and research data management. The Data Stewardship Programme at TU Delft aims at addressing data management needs across the campus by having Data Stewards embedded at every faculty. The Data Steward function is key for the implementation of FAIR data and software, as well as Open Science, in daily research practice. The Data Steward will take the lead in engaging with and training researchers and promoting better data management, software and Open Science practices.

 

As the Data Steward you are part of the support staff of the faculty of Applied Sciences. You report to the executive faculty secretary and work closely with the faculty Graduate School, faculty ICT manager, contract managers and the Faculty Information Security Coordinator. Additionally, you are part of the university wide Data Stewards team which is coordinated by a coordinator (TU Delft Library) and you liaise with privacy, security, ethics, legal experts at the university level.

 Your main task is to advise and train PhD candidates, researchers and faculty staff on research data and software management and Open Science practices. You will:

 

  • Advise and support researchers in drafting data management plans and Open Science sections in grant proposals in line with funder, privacy and ethics regulations and intellectual property rights considerations.
  • Engage and enable researchers at your faculty to adopt data and software management practices, as well as Open Science practices.
  • Assist researchers in planning the collection, storage, documentation, and publication of data and software in research projects.
  • Design and run training or community events tailored to researchers’ needs.
  • Act as spokesperson for the faculty on data and software management and Open Science, and liaise with Open Science initiatives at the University level (TU Delft Open Science Programme, Open Science Community Delft, TU Delft Digital Competence Center).
  • Liaise with the Data Steward Coordinator and other Data Stewards to streamline data and software management related workflows within TU Delft.
  • Further develop and implement the data stewardship and Open Science strategy and policy for the faculty.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates experienced with research methodologies relevant to the faculty's research. The candidate:

 Has an interest in and advocates for open science, FAIR data and software.

  • Has a PhD (desirable) or research experience.
  • The candidate needs a broad understanding of how research operates and how data and software underpins reproducible research.
  • Has knowledge and hands on experience in managing and making research data and/or software reproducible.
  • Is a good communicator, able to speak not only with researchers, but also with other support staff, and are sensitive to organisation-specific culture and practices.
  • Has experience or an interest in policy development and implementation (desirable). Can assess and report on the progress of faculty research data/software management and open science progress.
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Has experience in designing research and handling personal data in compliance with the GDPR (desirable), or an interest in gaining more knowledge on this topic.
  • Is fluent in both English and Dutch.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

  • A contract for 1 year with prospect of permanent for 32-38 hours per week.
  • A salary based on 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 4.332,00 and a maximum of € 5.929,00 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • If upon starting the position it appears that the employee cannot immediately fully perform the position, the employee can be placed in a starting scale, scale 10, on the basis of the NU collective labor agreement article 3.7. The associated salary is a minimum of € 3,226 and a maximum of € 5,090 gross per month.
