We are looking for suitable candidates with passion for AI research and education. Priority will be given to candidates with a strong research track record and teaching experience in areas such as Explainable AI, AI for Text mining, NLP and LLMs, and AI robustness and reliability.
Data and AI cluster (DAI)You will join the team of the
Data and Artificial Intelligence cluster. At DAI we study foundations of AI for the present and the future. We design new AI methods, develop AI algorithms and tools with a view at expanding the reach of AI and its generalization abilities. In particular, we study foundational issues of robustness, safety, fairness, trust, reliability, tractability, scalability, interpretability and explain ability of AI.
Currently, DAI includes six research groups: Uncertainty in AI, Generative AI, Data Mining, Databases, ML for Physical Sciences, and Automated ML. The cluster consists of 3 full professors, 3 associate professors, 12 full-time assistant professors and 7 part-time and adjunct assistant professors affiliated with industry labs including DeepMind, Wayve, TomTom, Oracle labs. The cluster houses 50+ PhD candidates and postdocs, 8 AI Engineers and support staff.
DAI research is regularly published at top AI journals and conferences such as IJCAI, AAAI, ICML, ECMLPKDD, ICDM, NeurIPS, VLDB, and SIGMOD among others. Recently our work was recognized with the best paper awards, including Best Research Paper Award at VLDB 2024, SIGMOD 2023 (Research Highlight Award and Best Industry Paper Award), Best Demo Paper Award of IEEE ICDE 2023, IDA 2023 Runner-up Frontier Prize, Best Paper Award of LoG 2022, and Best Research Paper Award IEEE DSAA 2022 among others. Please refer to

DAI is active in foundational and application-inspired research supported by NWO, H2020, other funding bodies and industry (ASML, KPN, Philips, TomTom, Rabobank). Example projects can be found at
https://dai.win.tue.nl/researchprojects/.
DAI is actively involved in teaching in the Bachelor, Master and postgraduate level education of students in AI, Data Science and Computer Science. An overview of courses can be found at
https://dai.win.tue.nl/courses/ and examples of MSc thesis projects at
https://dai.win.tue.nl/masterprojects/. We regularly attract many talented students who are interested both research and engineering focused education. Their work receive recognition through publications and university and national level best MSc thesis awards.
Please do not hesitate to approach members of DAI at ECMLPKDD 2024 and NeurIPS 2024 to discuss our research, education and working environment.
