Job description

Which project do we offer:

We will soon start a new project, ACACIA, co-funded by the EU EUROSTARS program, where we will extend an existing radiation research platform for preclinical cancer studies with small animals. Your role will be to develop software to improve x-ray CT resolution, noise and imaging dose to specimens. You will implement various methods to improve preclinical conventional x-ray imaging, but also to support two novel forms of x-ray imaging that other partners will implement: x-ray spectral CT and x-ray phase contrast imaging. You will also work on further development of our AI Deep Learning autocontouring of anatomical structures in rodents for cancer research. Besides this R&D project, after a learning phase, you will also assist with providing support to our customers who are using our treatment planning software to guide rodent irradiation. You will operate within an international team that consists of industry partners SmART Scientific Solutions (Maastricht, leader of the project) and a major biomedical imaging developer, and two teams at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU, Munich), and the local radiotherapy Maastro Clinic (part of the University of Maastricht). Willingness to work in such a collaboration is important.

Requirements

What are we looking for: Physics/Engineering researcher and software developer

We are looking for a dynamic co-worker, preferably a recent graduate with a MSc degree in physics, or engineering in physics or biomedical physics, or Computer Sciences. Candidates with a relevant PhD will also be considered. Ideally, you have knowledge of x-ray imaging systems and advanced AI skills and computer programming. You should be excited about working in a young R&D company, in close collaboration with the academic world and other biomedical companies. You should have an excellent study record and be willing to work in a small highly motivated team. You should be willing to relocate to the region around Maastricht (which is also close to Germany and Belgium). Knowledge of the Dutch language is not a requirement. You should be fluent in English (written and spoken). EU applicants will be given priority.
