Job description

The 4TU Centre for Engineering Education (4TU.CEE) is looking for a communication officer who can help operationally and strategically communicate and promote our activities and results. Are you creative and proactive? Do you have experience with branding an organization? Do you have an interest in working in higher education? Then this position might be for you. We expect our communication officer to take about 12-16 hours weekly on average, with some variation depending on the activities organized and the time of the year. It is possible to work from any of our four universities as a home base (Delft, Wageningen, Twente, Eindhoven), hybrid or completely remote.

The 4TU.Centre for Engineering Education (4TU.CEE) is the Dutch centre of expertise for university teachers and researchers with questions and ambitions in the domain of engineering education innovation and research at our four universities of technology. 4TU.CEE aims to jointly inspire stimulate, support, and disseminate effective and high-quality engineering education through scientific research and the application of evidence-informed innovations within the engineering education domain.

You will work in close collaboration with the 4TU.CEE Board members, a dedicated team of engineering education experts from the four universities. We currently would like to evaluate our communication strategy and streamline the communication processes in line with our Strategic Agenda 2026-2029 (in development). Of course, the daily communication tasks continue during this update. You are both executing and improving the process at the same time. More particularly you will work on:

  • Branding 4TU.CEE and disseminating the project results of our centre; Assisting in the development of 4TU.CEE reports or publications, including editing texts and selecting photos or other visual materials; Managing and updating the 4TU.CEE website and other social media; Leading the development of the content, lay-out, and distribution of the 4TU.CEE electronic newsletter (every 2 months) and 4TU.CEE blog;
  • Co-organizing 4TU.CEE events together with the program coordinators, academic leads, and project leads; Creating and disseminating communication around specific organized events, such as website texts, brochures, subscription pages on website, emails, promotion via screens at the universities (typically 1 or 2 events each month); Making sure that the 4TU events are known widely and that there is a nice audience attending;
  • Advising the Board on the 4TU.CEE’s communication strategy; Managing and maintaining the 4TU.CEE corporate identity; Acting as a reference point and contact for questions about communication and correct use of 4TU.CEE house style, logos, and templates;
  • Strengthening our local and (inter)national networks and communities, also to detect opportunities for collaboration and dissemination;
  • Coordinating and supporting junior communication colleagues or student assistants in their communication tasks;
  • Managing the 4TU.CEE email account and making notes of the 4TU.CEE board meetings (every 2-3 months); Providing input for the board’s agenda on communication matters.

Requirements

  • You are an experienced (> 5 years).
  • Creative, analytical, collaborative, and proactive communication professional.
  • At least HBO level with a hands-on mentality and skillset and a strategic view on the branding of an institute like 4TU.CEE.
  • You have experience or a proven interest in working in higher education.
  • You are fluent in English, and preferably also in Dutch.
  • It is a plus when you have prior experience with Content Management Systems (CMS). 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

  • Duration of contract is 1 year with prospect for extension.
  • A job of 11.4-15.2 hours per week.
  • A salary based on the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €3.377,- and a maximum of €4.640,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.

From 1 September next, a salary increase of 3.7% applies due to a Collective Agreement amendment, followed by an additional 1% increase on 1 January 2025. In addition, most employees employed on 1 September 2024 will receive a one-off payment of €300 gross based on full-time employment.
