Job description

ERC Consolidator MORASINA

Job description
Acoustic modeling of the turbulence distortion of a rotor interacting with lifting surface.

The candidate will start with extracting the turbulent characteristics of canonical distorted flow patterns generated by the interaction of a wing with a rotor. The study will start with the definition of the most interesting configurations for applications in VTOL, with special focus on transition and maneuvering configurations. The candidate will subsequently analyze how to embed the turbulent flow parameters into existing acoustic analogies (e.g. in the form of change of boundary conditions or inflow characteristics) in order to build an acoustic noise prediction tool. The aim it to build a noise prediction tool which is sensitive to the geometric configuration and to the flow pattern by it created.

Requirements
The candidate should have:
  • a MSc degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics, an area relevant to the subject,
  • good analytical skills and a strong interest in performing experiments is required.
  • a solid knowledge of signal processing and mathematical theories,
  • advanced programming skills are advantageous for these positions.

As the project is part of a larger research program, practical interactions and collaborative skills are important too.

Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. For more details please check the Graduate Schools Admission Requirements.
