Job description

As a research technician at the Leiden hiPSC Centre of LUMC, you'll be responsible for generating and genetically modifying human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) for researchers within and outside LUMC. You'll work closely with the senior researcher to produce and characterize genetically modified cell lines, utilizing advanced techniques such as molecular cloning, PCR analysis, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. Additionally, you'll contribute to maintaining the stem cell database, differentiating hiPSCs into specific somatic cell types, and writing and optimizing protocols. You'll also have the opportunity to play a supporting role in the practical courses on "stem cells" and "gene-editing" organized once or twice a year, helping with material preparation and assisting in the lab. Your top 3 tasks are:

•          Producing and characterizing genetically modified hiPSC lines, including isogenic controls, knockouts, and reporters

•          Isolating, culturing, and reprogramming primary cells into hiPSCs, and expanding and managing hiPSC stocks

•          Performing various analyses, including (dd)PCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry

Requirements

As the ideal candidate for this position, you're a motivated and proactive professional who strives for accuracy and quality in your work. You're service-oriented, communicate clearly in English, and take initiative to improve processes. Furthermore, you have:

•          A BSc degree in biological sciences, biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience

•          Demonstrable experience with cell culture and CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing techniques; experience with pluripotent stem cell culture is a plus

•          Practical knowledge of molecular biological techniques such as molecular cloning, (dd)PCR, and preferably also immunofluorescence microscopy and flow cytometr

Conditions of employment

·         As a research technician, your salary ranges from € 2,975 to € 4,214 gross per month (scale 7M, CAO UMC). These figures are based on a full-time position.
