Published Deadline Location

Job description

As a salt marsh ecology researcher, you will work on salt marsh research at Wageningen Marine Research (WMR). Together with the salt marsh team, you will conduct measurements and analyses on long-term vegetation development and sediment accretion, the effects of subsidence due to gas extraction, and carbon storage in salt marshes. You will incorporate this knowledge into reports and provide advice on salt marsh restoration plans and management. In doing so, you will also contribute to the development of "nature-based solutions" in coastal areas and explore how these can be applied in an ecologically responsible manner.

You will collaborate with your colleagues on multiple projects simultaneously, with responsibilities distributed based on capacity and personal interests. Maintaining contacts with clients and other stakeholders is an integral part of our work.

Your tasks and responsibilities as a salt marsh ecology researcher are:
  • Annual monitoring of sediment accretion and vegetation development on various salt marshes in the Wadden Sea;
  • analyzing and interpreting monitoring data;
  • writing reports for clients;
  • assisting with securing new projects and drafting research proposals;
  • publishing and presenting your research in scientific journals and at conferences.

Wageningen Marine Research
Your work area is primarily the Dutch Wadden Sea, but other parts of the Netherlands and international projects are also possible. Wageningen Marine Research (WMR) is a leader in the Netherlands in marine ecological data collection: benthic animals, marine mammals, fish, birds, coral, shellfish, and more. Many of these datasets have been standardized and maintained for decades. You will contribute to the continuation of the salt marsh dataset, which includes over 60 years of data.
