Research focus
We invite applications from researchers with a strong interest in liver tumors (hepatoblastoma, hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC]) and liver disorders that increase the risk of tumor formation in children. Our mission is to explore the underlying mechanisms of these conditions and develop cutting-edge therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes.
Innovative Techniques and Collaborative Environment
The project will focus on investigating tumor origin, development and heterogeneity, as well as identifying new therapeutics modalities. You will utilize advanced methodologies such as single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, whole genome sequencing, RNA therapeutics development, antibody/nanobody design and high-throughput screening. Additionally, we develop advanced organoid models to investigate potential treatment strategies.
Collaborations with the Single Cell Genomics Facility, Protein and Antibody Facility, High Throughput Screening Facility, and Big Data Core are key to our research, providing a stimulating environment for scientific discovery. Our extensive collaborations both within the Utrecht Science Park and with international institutions foster a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. We will align the specific research focus with the postdoctoral researcher’s interests and areas of expertise to ensure a rewarding and mutually beneficial experience.

The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is an integrated hospital and research institute, which integrates healthcare, research and education on pediatric cancer, in a single location in Utrecht. Our institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer, with optimal quality of life. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
We are dedicated to pioneering research in pediatric liver cancer and related diseases and are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our dynamic team. Your contributions will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding and developing innovative therapies for pediatric liver cancers and rare liver diseases.
Our focus is on childhood liver cancer, diseases, and regenerative medicine. Our goal is to unravel the molecular mechanisms that drive childhood liver cancer and to develop innovative therapeutic approaches. We have previously pioneered the method for 3D hepatocyte organoid culture, and we will continue to leverage this organoid technology to model diseases for therapeutic discovery.
