Job description

We offer a position as biotechnician in development of in vivo gene therapy with a focus on the nervous system within UMC Utrecht. To this end, you will work in a division overarching team that strives to accelerate clinical development of gene therapies by focusing on one of the current main obstacles in this field: efficient delivery of gene products to the right organs and cell types of interest (by designing minimal promoters and enhancers, specific coat proteins). Your role is to grow high titer AAV stocks, deliver these and other gene delivery methods to mice and test the efficacy of gene delivery in vivo using FACS sorting and immunohistochemistry.

Requirements

  • You are a biotechnician with affinity for viral vector development, production and delivery.
  • You have knowledge about cell culture and virus purification, cloning, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and handling mice
  • You have interest in delivery of gene therapy in vivo, preferably in mice.
  • You have the ability to think analytically, problem-solving skills, and a drive to succeed.
  • You have the ambition to work in an innovation driven, highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
  • You have skills to work independently as well as collaborate with other team members with interdisciplinary background and social skills for fruitful interactions.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (27 - 36 hours) is € 4.214,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The position is embedded within the Department of Translational Neuroscience of UMC Utrecht. The project focusses on building an in-house viral vector production platform within UMC Utrecht to support development of gene therapy. In addition to this embedding, the technician will be team member of the UMCU gene-therapy delivery platform and thus closely collaborate with the other UMC Utrecht groups working on gene therapies, in particular with Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies (ICAT) and Regenerative Medicine Center Utrecht (RMCU).
