Tilburg University | University Services is looking for an Instructional Designer / Education Development Officer (0.8 FTE - 32 hours per week) for the Divison Academic Services, Education Support Team (EST) TSHD, location Tilburg. Contract duration: 12 months.

As an instructional designer, you are co-responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of courses and innovation of education and learning strategies within our study programs. This includes designing blended learning pathways, applying media and technology in education, and introducing new (online) education and assessment formats. You support the design of the courses in the Learning Management System Canvas, the organization of the associated assessments, and you coach lecturers and Academic Directors/program coordinators in the design and development of blended courses and online assessment. 

We are looking for a new colleague who is enthusiastic about the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • coaching and advising lecturers on instructional design and educational innovation;
  • supporting those who are responsible for the content in the educational-didactic development of programs and courses;
  • conducting workshops in the field of course design, with the aim of blending and innovating courses;
  • transferring knowledge and expertise on the application of technology in blended teaching & learning in education and assessment by providing manuals, on-the-job guidance, and information sessions;
  • actively exploring new ideas in the field of technology-enhanced blended teaching & learning;
  • keeping abreast and having knowledge of current teaching & learning strategies in higher education;
  • providing input on policies, e.g., for the educational vision or assessment policies;
  • acting as a liaison in coordination with the educational and assessment organization within Academic Services.
  • Participating in both institutional and national platforms to keep abreast of changes in the industry, trends, and technological advancements in order to incorporate them into the education.

Educational Design Team
The educational design team is a sub-team of the Education Support Team TSHD: Office Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences | Tilburg University.
The team consists of 3 instructional designers associated with our programs who work in close collaboration with faculty and program directors on educational innovation.
The team also includes two assessment specialists. The educational design team works closely with the education policy team of the EST and with the vice dean of education TSHD.

Requirements

We are preferably looking for a candidate with professional and intellectual ability at an academic level in the field of educational sciences/educational technology. You have knowledge of and/or experience with innovation and improvement of education, didactics, digital applications, the use of modern media in education, and with the use of a Learning Management System in this context, or you are willing to (further) professionalize in these areas. You use a methodical approach to design learning experiences and you are able to reflect and act upon the strengths and weaknesses of the implemented interventions.
You have strong communication skills; you have the skills to translate requests and needs into concrete, tailor-made design solutions. You are entrepreneurial (think outside the box) and results-oriented, and are able to connect people in various positions and from various organizational units. You can also motivate and inspire both internal and external stakeholders in innovation projects. You work efficiently and have an accurate work attitude and a good understanding of processes. You are organizationally and mentally strong, work independently, can handle a high workload, are focused on connection and collegiality, and are solution and service oriented. You are keen to shape this position with enthusiasm and are not afraid of new and unexpected matters. You are flexible in the execution of your tasks. You have excellent communication skills in English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing.

Conditions of employment

This is a temporary employment contract (funded through the Quality Agreements Program) for 0,8 fte (32 hours per week) for the duration of one year with the possibility of an extension, depending on the actual performance and available financial resources.

The appointment is with the Academic Services Division of the University Services. The position is based in the Education Support Team of the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. This does not preclude any subsequent organizational change.

Tilburg University offers a good remuneration package. The appointment is, depending on relevant background and experience in accordance with the UFO profile Educational Development Officer 3  in scale 10. The salary amounts to a minimum of €3345 and a maximum of €5278 gross per month for a full-time appointment. In addition, the university has excellent secondary employment conditions, such as a study facilities scheme and the possibility of partly influencing your terms of employment individually with the aid of an Options Model for employment conditions.
