The Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital form a comprehensive cancer center, combining a research facility and a hospital under one roof in a single, independent organization. Research is focused on improving cancer treatment through imaging and molecular diagnostics, new medicine, immunotherapy, improved operating techniques, more effective radiotherapy, and combinations of these, health technology assessment, epidemiology and psychosocial research. Within the research group of Prof. Winette van der Graaf MD PhD and Olga Husson PhD we are currently looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher / epidemiologist to analyse a large registry-based dataset with clinical and long-term / late effect data of Adolescents and Young Adult (AYA) cancer patients (18-39 years at primary cancer diagnosis).
Background of our research
The personalized oncology research group is currently concentrating on two principal research lines: (1) the short-, long-term and late consequences of cancer at adolescent and young adult age; (2) diagnosis, treatment, outcome and health-related quality of life issues of people living with sarcoma.
Your tasks will be:
-Analysing a large dataset (>120.000 cases matched with controls) consisting of data from the Netherlands Cancer Registry, Statistics Netherlands, Dutch Hospital Database, VEKTIS;
-Reporting outcomes in scientific journals and presenting at conferences;
-Informing and supporting the development of guidelines for follow-up care for AYAs;
-Supporting group leaders in writing related grant applications.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a background in biomedical sciences, epidemiology, econometry or related domain. You will become part of an enthusiastic team of dedicated researchers, clinicians and support personnel. We are embedded in a stimulating department including people with mixed backgrounds (medicine, psychology, epidemiology) in an institute with excellent supporting facilities. The candidate should have extensive experience with case-control studies, sophisticated statistical analyses (preferably with R) and should have a great interest in patient-oriented research. Medical knowledge is a plus. Excellent communication skills and a capacity to work in autonomy are essential. Fluency in spoken and written Dutch is required, because the registry data are only available in Dutch.
Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with the option to extend it.
Compensation
The Postdoc will be employed in the research group of Olga Husson PhD. We offer a contract for 1 year of 0.8-1.0 fte with the option to extend it. The gross salary per month will range from €4540,- to € 5084,- according to salary scale FWG group 55 and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
