Join the division of Equine Internal Medicine of the faculty of Veterinary Medicine as a ECEIM diplomate or board-eligible resident. This position is a temporary role covering maternity leave (March-June 2025).

Your job
As an equine internal medicine specialist, you will work in a team currently consisting of ten ECEIM diplomats, two residents, multiple interns and support staff, taking responsibility to consultations, in-patient care, and, emergency services. You will also participate in the internal medicine out-of-hours services on a 1:8 basis. Supervision and patient-based teaching of Veterinary Medicine Master’s students on clinical rotations is also part of your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • You are a veterinarian with an EU-recognised diploma.
  • You are an ECEIM (or ACVIM-LA) diplomate (or board-eligible).
  • You are highly motivated and conscientious with excellent communication skills and you enjoy working in a team and share our objectives of providing the highest quality of patient care.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a job for four months (March-June 2025);
  • a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,378 and €4,227 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • some flexibility in the duration and the FTE of the contract is possible;
  • an ‘out-of-hours’ allowance per shift as a supplement to the base salary;
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU

At the Department of Clinical Sciences, you will work alongside approximately 150 veterinarians and a similar number of support staff. Approximately two-thirds of the veterinarians are specialists in various disciplines; the remaining one-third consists of interns, residents and PhD candidates. Together we are responsible for the education of veterinary students, provision of clinical services to horses and companion animals, and both clinical and more fundamental research in the areas of regenerative medicine, locomotion, genetics and reproduction.

At the Division of Equine Internal Medicine, equids with varying medical illnesses are treated. Every year during foal season (March – June) a special Equine Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is set up to provide intensive care treatment for critically ill foals. The unit is staffed by European board certified ECEIM specialists and technicians. Specially trained foal nurses (veterinary students) watch the foals 24/7 and provide round-the-clock care for the sick foals. Furthermore, four external ECEIM residents visit our hospital for a month each for an equine neonatology externship as part of their ECEIM training program.
