At Amsterdam UMC, under the leadership of Professor Elga de Vries, our research group is dedicated to understanding the complex interplay between the immune system and neurodegenerative diseases, particularly dementia and multiple sclerosis.

We investigate the roles of neuroinflammation and neurovascular dysfunction in cognitive disorders, aiming to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets that can lead to innovative treatments. Our collaborative and dynamic environment fosters cutting-edge research that seeks to revolutionize patient care and enhance brain health.

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Research Technician to join our team.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell biology, particularly in working with human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing techniques.
  • This role requires both independent and collaborative work, where your expertise will directly contribute to innovative research projects.
  • Generate and maintain iPSC lines, with a focus on astrocyte and/or endothelial cell differentiation.
  • Perform quality control assays on iPSCs, including viability, sterility and pluripotency validation.
  • Develop, optimize and implement QC protocols and SOPs for iPSC production.
  • Keep meticulous records of cell line data and experimental protocols.
  • Utilize CRISPR-Cas technology for gene editing and manipulation.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members while also managing individual projects.
  • Assist in troubleshooting experiments and optimizing protocols.
  • Participate in lab meetings and contribute to research discussions.

Requirements

  • (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.) Completed bachelor's degree in Higher Laboratory Education/Biology and Medical Laboratory Research/comparable, with an affinity for neuroscience.
  • Proven experience with iPSC culture and differentiation techniques.
  • Familiarity with CRISPR-Cas technology and its applications in research.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a research laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of astrocyte and endothelial cell biology and related research methods.
  • Previous experience in maintaining cell lines and performing genetic modifications.

  • A contract for 12 months (extension for 2 years is possible, subject to funding).
  • Salary scale 7M: € 2.975 to € 4.214 gross based on full-time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Calculate your net salary here.
  • Holiday hours: 186,4 per year for fulltime and a possibility to save additional hours.
  • Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension.
  • For >7 km each way, 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.
  • Do you prefer walking or cycling? Take advantage of our good bike scheme. Moreover, you will receive a reimbursement of €0.18 per km.
