The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) (hosted by the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute) is looking for a deputy director. This is a unique opportunity to lead an international team and to help shape the future of the GGP. This position requires an expertise in survey data and/or in the substantive topics covered by the GGP. It is aimed at candidates at the associate or full professor level.

What are we looking for?
The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) currently has a vacancy for a Deputy Director whose main responsibility will be to contribute to the scientific excellence of the GGP, pave the way to a more sustainable financial situation, and help coordinate the work of the Central Hub team. The GGP deputy director will work closely with the GGP Director but is also expected to have his/her own portfolio of responsibilities. In addition, the deputy will be expected to maintain an active research program (connected with the topics covered in the GGP) including the supervision of master and doctoral students.

This position is targeted at people whose profile corresponds to that of an associate or full professor, who is willing to invest in leadership and managerial responsibilities, while maintaining an active scientific programme of research.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

1. PhD in sociology, demography or other relevant discipline (minimum 10 years since PhD)
2. Track record of publications in substantive or methodological fields related to the GGP and of successful funding applications.
3. Excellent knowledge of the GGP or a similar survey-based infrastructure
4. Knowledge of the European data landscape and European funding is an asset
5. Knowledge of Dutch is not essential, but the successful candidate will be expected to learn the language in a reasonable time frame.

A successful applicant will have excellent communication skills with different stakeholders, as well as have the ability to work in a team. The ability to handle rapid changes in priorities is a must. It is also necessary to have an excellent command of the English language.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 6,286 and the maximum salary is 8,405 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 13 or 14 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).

Non Dutch applicants are required to relocate to The Netherlands. If and when necessary, NIDI will apply for the residence permit. Non Dutch employees may qualify for a Tax break (30% Ruling).

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the center of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Currently the staff of the institute consists of about 65 employees of different levels of seniority and organized in a rather horizontal structure within four thematic research groups. What is the GGP?
The Generations and Gender Programme is an international research infrastructure on population and family dynamics. Its mission is to collect and make available high quality data to better address scientific and societal issues related to demographic changes. Its main instrument is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) which is a unique longitudinal and cross-nationally comparable data source on families and people's life courses. Currently, new data are being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries.

The headquarters of the GGP (Central Hub) are located at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in The Hague. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, which includes providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, processing the collected data for release to the scientific community, and engaging with the GGP's stakeholders.
