PhD Advanced AI analysis of PET/CT in multiple myeloma

Published Deadline Location
6 Jan 19 Jan Amsterdam
Will you join our international team working on improving diagnosis and prognosis of multiple myeloma patients developping new AI-based analysis methods of PET/CT images?

Job description

You will take part in the PETRA consortium and join the PET/CT methodology team at the department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine of Amsterdam UMC (currently over 10 PhD students). You will develop, implement and evaluate new AI based methods to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment response prediction of Multiple Myeloma patients using FDG PET/CT data. You will develop both methods based on so-called radiomics and machine learning as well as (further) develop deep learning-based methods. Later, these approaches may be compared or combined (ensembling) to identify the approach that gives the highest diagnostic and prognostic performance. Baseline and follow up PET-CT scans have been collected from clinical trials, as are the clinical and outcome data.

Would you like to know more about the different phases within the PhD trajectory? You can read more about this on this page.

You will develop new image analysis methods using AI. This includes processing of FDG PET/CT images, semi-automated) segmentation of tumours and healthy organs, extracting quantitative features from these images and writing python or R scripts to train and test machine learning and/or deep learning methods. Deep learning models will include development, training and testing of convolutional neural networks (python, tensorflow, Keras). Model performance will be assessed by statistical analysis using R or python scripts.
