Join our team as an enthusiastic research fellow to advance multi-disciplinary research in cutting-edge integrated passenger and freight transportation systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to explore revolutionary transport and mobility concepts at the intersection of research and practice. We leverage state-of-the-art optimization techniques, aimed at integrating stakeholders’ perspectives in the design of systems.

As part of your responsibilities, you will engage with stakeholders, identify key and sometimes competing design factors and develop representative models and solution algorithms to reflect these design factors. Key Responsibilities:We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative researcher who meets the following criteria:
  • Conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research to design and model innovative integrated passenger and freight transport systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate requirements and perspectives in the design process.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present research at international conferences, as well as project workshops.
  • Supervise and mentor students, fostering a collaborative research environment.

Job requirements
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative researcher who meets the following criteria:
  • Education: PhD in Operations Research, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong background in optimization, algorithms and mathematical modeling.
    • Excellent programming skills.
    • Familiarity with applications of optimization and mathematical modelling in routing and fleet management problems is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Innovative thinker with a problem-solving mindset.
    • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Reliable, independent, and organized, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
    • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences
The Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences (CEG) is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied earth sciences, traffic and transport, water technology, and delta technology. Our research feeds into our educational programmes and covers societal challenges such as climate change, energy transition, resource availability, urbanisation and clean water. Our research projects are conducted in close cooperation with a wide range of research institutions. CEG is convinced of the importance of open science and supports its scientists in integrating open science in their research practice. The Faculty of CEG comprises 28 research groups in the following seven departments: Materials Mechanics Management & Design, Engineering Structures, Geoscience and Engineering, Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Transport & Planning, Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management.

Conditions of employment
  • Duration of contract is 18 Months.
  • A job of 38-40 hours per week.
