Job description

The Instituut Gak Fellowship at NIAS offers researchers the opportunity to advance knowledge on topics in the fields of social security and labour market policy. The environment at NIAS provides researchers with the opportunity to work on their own project within an inspiring interdisciplinary community of scholars, writers, artists and journalists. During the Instituut Gak Fellowship researchers can fully focus on their research and the in-depth exploration of their topic. The fellow can concentrate on developing new scientific insights (preferably leading to publications), writing grant proposals, or work on solutions to practical issues. NIAS and the Instituut Gak offer two fellowships in the academic year 23/24: September 2023- January 2024 and February - June 2024.

Requirements

The Instituut Gak Fellowship is open to all researchers with at least three years of postdoctoral experience. Early-career researchers (with 3-10 years of postdoctoral experience) are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants need to be on a temporary or permanent contract at a Dutch or Flemish University and/or research institute, or registered in the Netherlands as an independent researcher.

Conditions of employment

A Fellowship includes time to fully focus on one's own project at an Institute for Advanced Study, a personal office in the center of Amsterdam and daily lunches. A NIAS fellowship does not constitute an employment relationship. During the fellowship, the fellow is and remains an employee of his or her own university or research institute, or registered as an independent researcher. Fellows receive a personal stipend or a Dutch University Grant, both of 2.500 euro per month. NIAS also offers accommodation on top locations against subsidized rates to fellows who live more than 1.5-hour’s journey from Amsterdam. Fellows who live less than 1.5-hours’ journey by public transport to Amsterdam Central receive travel expenses.

Employer

Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study

The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study is one of the institutes of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). It is an intellectual haven to a diverse year-group of international scientists, writers, journalists and artists and provide these NIAS Fellows with the opportunity to devote themselves to an independent research project of their own design.

Application procedure

The Call for Applications is open until 12.00hrs, 1 November 2022. The review process and selection process takes time. All applicants will be informed of the outcome by 24 December 2022.
