Job description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the European ID-alert project to understand the effects of climate mitigation measures on the risk of mosquito borne diseases. You will specifically study changes in local animal reservoir host populations and mosquitoes following the implementation of several interventions (Nature Based Solutions) in the wider region of Rotterdam, and the possible public health effects of these changes.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, both within the Rotterdam region, as well as with international researchers in the ID-alert project. Your project will involve virology, animal ecology as well as epidemiology. As a member of the One Health Virology group you will also be part of the WHO collaborating center for Arbovirus and Haemorrhagic Fever Reference and Research. You will also work closely together with the Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness Center.

  • Good communication skills, a flexible attitude, and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to perform independent research, in terms of laboratory work, data analysis and field work organisation.
  • Experience in the field of mosquito borne viruses is an asset.
  • Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.

Conditions of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 1 year.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a maximum of € 5.292 ,- (scale 10) based on experience and a 36 hour workweek.
