Job description

Tilburg University, Division library and IT Services (LIS) is looking for an enthusiastic colleague for the position of VR Developer at the DAF Technology Lab, a large virtual and mixed reality lab at the Tilburg University campus. 

The DAF Technology Lab is a university facility consisting of office space, three research cabins and two CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) systems. The two CAVE systems offer a 5x5 meter immersive environment with VR projections on the four CAVE walls combined with advanced audio facilities. The CAVEs have been used for education and research purposes, the research cabins have been used for (VR) research purposes. In addition, sensing technologies (eye trackers, EEG and fNIR scanners, heart rate and skin response monitors, etc.), are available to researchers to monitor participant behavior in experiments.

Your position 
The programmer for the DAF technology Lab will be helping, and is in part responsible, for the VR simulations in the lab. The successful candidate is able to prioritize programming tasks, and help out where help is needed in writing Unity and/or Unreal code. The successful candidate is one of the leading programming liaisons in the lab.

Requirements

  • A proactive, dynamic, and enthusiastic technical ambassador of the project consortium;
  • Excellent programming skills, preferably in languages such as C++, C#, Unity, and Unreal;
  • Experience with projects within academic environments;
  • Very good command of both spoken Dutch and English;
  • Result-oriented, creative, decisive, with networking and collaborative skills;
  • Excellent programming and technical skills including attention for detail and multitasking skills, able to keep overview;
  • Ability to interact and communicate efficiently with various stakeholders, including students, instructors and colleagues.
  • A degree at University of Applied Science (HBO) or University (WO) level.
  • Evidence of ability to create VR environments for education and research.
  • You show personal leadership: you take responsibility for your work and career and have good self-knowledge. 
  • You have a sense of team spirit: you feel part of a team and express this through collaboration, sharing knowledge and experiences, and contributing to an open and inclusive work environment.
  • You are able to solve VR problems by aligning needs to instructors and researchers to the programming possibilities the lab can offer.

Conditions of employment

Tilburg University offers excellent benefits in a pleasant working environment: 

  • A position based on 1.0 fte (40 hours per week). 
  • A salary of minimum €3.537 and maximum €4.860 gross per month for full-time employment, based on UFO profile Software developer ICT 4 (IT/IV Engineering and Application Manager will be the new ufo profile) and salary scale 9. Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system based on relevant work experience. 
  • This is a vacancy for a position in accordance with Article 2.3 paragraph 1 CLA DU. You will be given a temporary contract for the duration of 12 months.
  • Vacation pay of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. 
  • Over 8 weeks of vacation leave. 
  • The opportunity to work partly on campus and partly from home with a home office allowance of €2 per day.
  • Reimbursement for sustainable commuting: walking, cycling, and public transport. 
  • A monthly internet allowance of €25.

About DAF Technology Lab
The DAF Technology Lab is a unique research, education and training facility in virtual reality, mixed reality and augmented reality. The lab occupies virtual reality rooms with various behavior measurement technologies, VR equipment as well as two CAVE systems. These CAVEs (Cave Virtual Automatic Environment) offer the opportunity to experience virtual reality not individually but collaboratively through VR projection on four walls.
