Job description

What will you be doing?
As a Junior Linux Administrator and Application Tester, you will be responsible for maintaining and managing Linux systems and performing application testing. In this role, your time will be divided between supporting the Linux infrastructure and testing applications to ensure software stability and quality. You will work closely with experienced administrators and testers and have the opportunity to further develop yourself in both fields and obtain certifications (such as Linux Essentials or LPI certification).

Your responsibilties include:
  • Linux Administration:
    • Manage and monitor Linux servers (installations, updates, configurations), both on-premise and Azure.
    • Incident management and troubleshooting of server issues.
    • Perform basic scripting and automation tasks, for example in Bash or Python.
    • Provide support in configuring new servers and network environments.
  • Application Testing:
    • Perform functional and regression testing on new and existing applications.
    • Document test cases and results.
    • Identify, reproduce and report bugs.
    • Working with developers to resolve issues found.
    • Maintain and update test plans and documentation.

Requirements

What will you bring to the table?

You have completed your IT education at MBO or HBO level. You also possess basic knowledge of Linux (e.g. Ubuntu or RHEL) and an affinity with software testing and quality assurance. It is an advantage if you have experience with scripting (Bash or Python). In addition, you possess the following skills and competences:
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Team player who works well together and is open to feedback.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and security is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and immerse yourself in both Linux administration and testing.
  • Experience with Ansible is a plus.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is € 3.218,- to a maximum of € 4.298,- gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 8, cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP. The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).

DANS is located on Anna van Saksenlaan in The Hague, within walking distance of Laan van NOI station. It is possible to work partially (up to 50%) from home.
