Employer

Wageningen University & Research

WBVR is the Dutch national reference laboratory for notifiable animal diseases and a contract research organisation for various partners nationally and internationally. Our mission is safeguarding animal and human health through bio-veterinary research.
The department of Infection Biology focusses on infectious diseases of both viral and bacterial origin. We perform applied research projects in close collaboration with private industry partners active in both veterinary and human biomedical field. We participate in Public Private Partnership research projects in pre-competitive areas, and use national and international public funding for more fundamentally oriented projects.
Within the department of Infection Biology, we are focussing on virulence mechanism of pathogens and the interaction of pathogens with the host. To this end, innovative molecular microbiology techniques as well as new in vitro models are exploited and linked to information from studies in infection models in farm animals. To secure continuity in this focus area we currently have an opening for a Post-doctoral scientist in Bacterial Infection Biology joining our research group on Streptococcus suis infections in pigs. New fields to explore are the role of microbiota to reduce infectious diseases and promote health.
