A PhD (4 years) and a Postdoc (2 years) position are available in the Biomedical Solid-State NMR group at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. We work on several promising antibiotics and study their modes of action directly in the native cellular environment using cutting-edge solid-state NMR methods and an array of other biophysical techniques. We actually try to use our insights to design improved antibiotics and collaborate with several partners with expertise in medicine and synthetic chemical biology.
The group has in-house access to an array of high and ultra-high field NMR machines (700, 800, 900, 950, and – very soon – 1200 MHz) equipped with state-of-the-art probes, 400 and 800 DNP-ssNMR machines, a well-endowed wet-lab, and other equipment to probe energetics of drug – receptor binding.
We are looking for a PhD with knowledge in molecular biology, and a general strong interest in biophysical techniques and structural biology. Prior knowledge in NMR is a plus but not required.
We are looking for a Postdoc with a very strong knowledge in NMR (solution or solids) and solid publication track. Expertise in NMR structure calculation or MD simulation is a plus.
Applicants should have a degree in biochemistry/biophysics or a related discipline. Experience in molecular biology is highly desirable.
