Within the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics (DIAM), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences of Delft University of Technology, we offer a PhD position in the research group Analysis for a duration of four years. The PhD candidate will be supervised by M.V. Gnann. Interactions with other members of DIAM or external collaborators are encouraged. The thesis will deal with current questions on the analysis of (stochastic) nonlinear partial differential equations connected to free-boundary problems in fluid mechanics or applications in neuroscience. The candidate is expected to finish his/her studies with a PhD thesis and disseminate results through publications in peer-review journals and presentations at international conferences. The position also entails a light teaching load.
Master in mathematics or a related discipline (or an equivalent degree that qualifies for a PhD position) is required. The candidate should have a strong interest and sufficient prerequisites in functional analysis and the analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations. Knowledge in probability theory and an interest in applications is advantageous.
Fixed-term contract: 4 year.

Research at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics (DIAM) centres around the analysis of mathematical models arising in science and engineering. It maintains intensive contacts with other TU Delft departments, the major technological institutes, and the research laboratories of major companies. Within its own subject field, the department provides teaching for the Applied Mathematics BSc and MSc programmes, and also contributes to the teaching of mathematics courses within other academic programmes at the TU Delft and within national programmes such as “MasterMath”.
