Associate/Full Professor in Systems or Computational Biology

The Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology (MaCSBio) is an interdisciplinary research centre aimed at integrating and modelling biological data from different empirical domains using data-driven as well as theory-driven analytical and modelling approaches. MaCSBio has been growing steadily since its foundation in 2015 and is well connected to other parts of Maastricht University. Because of this, we have access to state-of-the-art clinical, laboratory, and imaging infrastructure to generate (human) experimental data.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) at Maastricht University is rapidly expanding its research and teaching activities. In view of this, MaCSBio has a new position for an ambitious Associate or Full Professor to complement our current research lines in Systems Medicine of Chronic Diseases, Computational Neuro-Genetics, and Systems Toxicology. 

We are looking for a candidate with the ambition to reach a leading position in Systems or Computational Biology and experience in the areas of multiscale modelling of biological systems (e.g. dynamic (ODE) models, genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs)) and/or machine learning of biological data (e.g. multi-omics data integration, imaging genomics, network biology). MaCSBio has so far focussed mainly on human systems biology but we welcome candidates with expertise on other organisms (e.g. plants, microbes) or with a more methodological focus.

The successful candidate is expected to acquire externally funded research projects, lead and participate in interdisciplinary research teams, and pursue strategies to translate research results into innovation. You will participate in teaching and coordination of bachelor and master courses, in particular in the 2-year Master Programme in Systems Biology hosted by MaCSBio.
 

Our ideal candidate has:
•    A PhD degree in systems biology, computational biology, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, or a related field;
•    The ambition to reach a leading position in these areas;
•    An excellent track record in scientific publications;
•    A strong scientific network;
•    Proven experience in the acquisition and management of externally funded research projects;
•    Experience in teaching and supervision of PhD candidates and BSc/MSc students. Maastricht University requires teaching staff to have the University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or acquire this qualification preferably within the first year;
•    A personality characterized by collaboration, vision, and ambition;
•    Fluency in the English language.

• We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5,190 and max. € 8,371 depending on experience and qualifications, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours/week);

• We offer an employment contract as Associate or Full Professor (depending on experience and qualifications). MaCSBio strives to perform cutting edge research in the interdisciplinary field of Systems Biology, combining biology and state-of-art technology for the acquisition of biological data with advanced mathematical and computational methods. Research projects at MaCSBio focus on human, multiscale modelling in research lines on Systems Medicine of Chronic Diseases, Computational Neuro-Genetics, and Systems Toxicology. In addition to the postdocs and PhD-candidates currently working at MaCSBio, we aim to train a new generation of systems biology researchers by offering courses in several Bachelor programmes and a Master programme in Systems Biology.
