Job description

Are you interested in artificial intelligence? Are you looking forward to working at the bleeding edge of the field and combining different technologies? Not afraid of working with a mix of structured and unstructured data?   We are looking for a PostDoc researcher to work with us in one of the following domains, or a combination of any of these:
  • Neuro-symbolic AI
  • Explainable Machine Learning
  • Bayesian Networks, Probabilistic logics
  • Graph Generative models
Your colleagues in the Discovery Lab are working on Knowledge Graph construction through link prediction and text understanding, Reinforcement learning over structured multi‐modal information, Task‐Based Question Answering, Hypothesis Generation, Knowledge‐driven query construction.

We are looking for postdoc candidates with a PhD in;
  • Computer Science
  • AI
  • Computational Linguistics or other related topics
  • with track record in any of the above areas or their overlap

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,790 (scale 10) and a maximum €4,402 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 2 years, with the possibility of extension of up to 4 year in total.

About the department, institute, project
The VU Department of Computer Science has approximately 170 staff members, including 35 tenured staff and 40-50 PhD students. Lecturers form a critical and essential basis for the functioning of the department, providing foundational education that helps determine the future of our students.

Our research and our students are diverse, covering disciplines such as Social sciences, Humanities, Economics, and Bioinformatics. Currently, we offer programs in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Information Sciences (BSc and MSc), and Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (MSc), with a total of around 1000 new students each year.
