The demand for healthcare steadily increases, importantly as a result of new technologies, rising expectations and the ageing of the population. The available budget for healthcare, however, is limited and therefore policymakers need to decide which interventions to fund and which not to fund. Economic evaluations are used to inform policymakers whether interventions provide sufficient value for money. In this context, measuring and valuing the full benefits of healthcare interventions is important, but also challenging. The Department of Health Economics of Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) has acquired a number of new projects in this area and therefore seeks a highly motivated postdoc researcher to contribute to a selection of these projects.

The postdoc will conduct research and write academic papers on a number of relevant topics in the context of the measurement and valuation of the benefits of healthcare. These topics include, but are not limited to:

1. Measurement and valuation of benefits in terms of health and wellbeing
2. Distribution and inequalities in health and wellbeing
3. Trade-offs between health and wellbeing effects
4. Spill-over effects of health changes on family members and informal caregivers  

The postdoc will collaborate with prof. Werner Brouwer and prof. Job van Exel, and a PhD student working on the same topics.

• You have a PhD in health economics, health sciences, or another relevant field.
• You have demonstrated to have excellent research skills evidenced by academic papers in highly ranked journals.
• You have a strong interest in doing methodological as well as applied research.
• You have a solid background in quantitative methods and experience with statistical analysis software like Stata, R or similar.
• You have a clear affinity with healthcare as a research topic. 
• You have excellent communication and writing skills in English. Fluency in Dutch is an advantage.
• You have experience with writing grant applications.
• You are enthusiastic, independent and highly motivated to do research, have an open and positive attitude towards learning, collaboration and achievement, and are capable of managing deadlines.

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is preferably July 1st, 2021 and you will be located at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM). The successful candidate will be offered a 1 year position with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 4 years conditional on performance and availability of funding.

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 11 with a minimum of € 3.746,- and a maximum of € 5.127,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. Full time is considered to be 38 hours a week.

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam and is responsible for a bachelors and three (international) master programs on health policy, economics and management, serving more than 800 students. ESHPM is a multidisciplinary school with research focusing on three main themes: ‘competition and regulation in healthcare’; ‘quality and efficiency in healthcare’; and ‘healthcare management’.
