Erasmus School of Law of Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands) is looking for a full-time employee who, as project coordinator and scientific postdoctoral researcher, can strengthen the research line "Rebalancing of public interests in private relations" as part of the Dutch Law Sector Plan. In the position, we bring two tasks together.

The tasks as project coordinator include:

• The organisation of the internal and external scientific activities of the sector plan (conferences, lectures, workshops, etc.) and proactively taking initiative to organize such activities (in particular the national platform "The Public-Private Challenge");
• The organisation, reporting and follow-up of the regular meetings of the management team within Erasmus School of Law and between EUR and the University of Groningen;
• (Helping) to prepare reports and self-evaluations as required in the planning and evaluation cycle of the sector plan for law;
• Recording and communicating the results of the sector plan projects (of the chairholders, postdocs, PhD students and the small grants initiative;
• Updating the websites based on upcoming and past events or other activities;
• To be the point of contact for questions about the sector plan and, where necessary, to forward it to the management team;
• A contribution to the monitoring and evaluation of projects financed by the sector plan;
• (Helping to) draw up regular financial reports on the sector plan for the management team and for the board of the faculty.

As a postdoctoral researcher, we expect:

•  The vision and ambition to set up a strong international line of research on a theme relevant to "Rebalancing of public interests in private relations"; 
• Setting up and conducting your own postdoctoral research project within the substantive framework of the sector plan research line "Rebalancing of public interests in private relationships";
• Contributing to all aspects of the research cycle, from the development of research proposals, the collection, analysis and presentation of data, to peer-reviewed publications and approaches to knowledge exchange with non-academic audiences. 
• The interest and experience to set up a network and research platform internally and externally with other stakeholders (national and international);
• Good overview of the research domain in relation to other relevant research areas;
• The ambition to work in an interdisciplinary research environment and to be part of a larger research team.

As coordinator and scientific postdoctoral researcher, you will work closely with the chair holders of Public & Private Interests Prof. Lieselot Bisschop & Prof. dr. René Repasi (Erasmus School of Law) as well as Prof. dr. Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) who together lead the research line “Rebalancing of public interests in private relationships". In addition, you will also work together with the chair holders on the other research line in which Erasmus School of Law participates: Empirical Legal Studies (Prof. Dr. Elena Kantorowicz-Rechnichenko & Prof. Dr. Pieter Desmet).

The research line "Rebalancing of public interests in private relations" is a collaboration between Erasmus University Rotterdam  (coordinator) and the University of Groningen and was  renamed "The Public-Private Challenge" by the chairholders. This research line of the sector plan aims to make an innovative contribution with research into the role of law in its economic and social context. This is a multidisciplinary research platform that focuses on the interaction between public and private interests in multi-level governance systems. More specifically, this addresses questions about how public interests can be safeguarded by private actors, within private relationships and within public-private partnerships, and about the interaction between the emergence of public and private interests in relation to contemporary societal challenges. Helping to build and coordinate this national common platform 'The Public-Private Challenge' is the main task of the intended project coordinator. Within the appointment at Erasmus School of Law, there is also a smaller role as project coordinator between the two internal research initiatives: Rebalancing Public & Private Interests and Erasmus Center of Empirical Legal Studies. Within these research lines of the sector plan, Erasmus School of Law has already recruited 4 part-time chair holders (2 per research line), 4 postdoctoral researchers and 11 PhD students.

The Sector Plan has chairholders/professors who are responsible for the scientific content and who lead the sector plan. However, facilitating collaboration within the national platform 'The Public-Private Challenge' of EUR and RUG, and collaboration within the management team of Erasmus School of Law, between the 11 PhD projects and 4 postdoc projects of both research lines of the sector plan requires more than academic inspiration. To adequately address all aspects, Erasmus School of Law is therefore recruiting a Project Coordinator & Scientific Postdoctoral Researcher. 

Requirements include: 
•    Relevant PhD (e.g. in law, criminology, public administration) with demonstrable affinity with the theme Rebalancing of public interests in private relations';
•    Demonstrable scientific creativity and productivity based on publications, applications for research funding and other academic activities;
•    Affinity with the theme 'empirical legal studies';
•    Interest in bridging the gap between science and society;
•    Experience in setting up and maintaining a network of contacts and organizing cooperation, both in science and with companies and social institutions;
•    Understanding of and sensitivity to the formal and informal structure of an organization and how you move within it to achieve the desired results;
•    Participation in international academic networks and conferences;
•    Excellent written and oral Dutch and English communication skills.

The beneficiary is affiliated with the Faculty of Law of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Start Date: February 1, 2022. The location of the work is Rotterdam. The position is a temporary full-time (1.0 fte) appointment (0.8 is negotiable), for 3 years, with the possibility of a tenure track. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten (CAO NU) with a minimum of € 3,821 and a maximum of € 5,230 gross per month (scale 11), based on a full-time working week of 38 hours per week. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, like a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave.
